" WE CAN DO IT! " TRADESWOMAN SPOTLIGHT.
I’m a Proud Local 130 Plumber. In reality, I didn’t choose it, plumbing picked me. Originally I signed up for the electricians just happened to sign up for the Plumbers after. Plumbers sent me acceptance letter first.
What trade are you and why did you choose it?
What’s the one thing you wish people understood about Tradeswomen?
Though we are women each one of us is different. We are not the atypical blurred out face with boobs. We think, work, act and do things in our own way.
If you weren’t afraid, what would be the one thing you would do?
Parachuting........when it comes to my work I deal with my fears and nervousness best as possible to get the job done. Don’t have time for fears people can get hurt that way.
What are some of the obstacles you had to overcome being a woman working in construction?
Just being a woman was an obstacle, some don’t want you there while others treat you like a delicate flower. And it doesn’t matter how long you’ve worked it’s a constant you have to prove you belong.
The second obstacle is being Latina.
How would you “ Do Power Differently “ in the trades?
Be willing to share your time, knowledge and experience with the future of your trade and other trades, doing just this small thing is priceless.
What actions should Sisters take to Lean In for each other?
The biggest thing is support. Let’s lift each other up it is the only way we can all succeed.
My dogs make me smile, but really seeing the growth and love of sisters is something that wasn’t there when I was an apprentice and seeing it now for the new generation of women coming in is FANTASTIC!!!
